Our Long-Stay Residential Treatment Facility provides people who have been hospitalized with an opportunity to live in the community by providing a housing option that balances their need for support with as much independence as possible in a community setting. As a member of this team you will support participants with their physical and mental health/addiction support needs by providing personal care, teaching life skills and coping strategies. Your work and support with participants will assist them in connecting with their social supports and their community to improve their quality of life. WHAT WE'RE OFFERING:
- What you'll be making - Starting rate for this role is $27.14 per hour (Level 1 – Direct Service), with a wage differential, based on regulation ($30.01 per hour for Level 1 – Direct Service, Regulated):
- Successful candidates who are registered with one of the designated professional colleges (e.g. OCSWSSW, CNO, COTO, CRPO, CPSO, or CPO) will receive the wage differential for regulation
- Successful external applicants will start at Level 1, with grid progression based on seniority up to Level 8 ($34.41 per hour for non-regulated, and $37.26 per hour for regulated); for internal applicants, grid level placement will occur as per the Collective Agreement
- Premiums of $2.00 will be applied for eligible Evening/Night and Weekend Shifts
- When you'll work - 70 hours biweekly; nights, including weekends
- Your pension plan – Immediately enrolled in the Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan (HOOPP)
- What your benefits will be – After a 90-day waiting period, will be enrolled in extended healthcare benefits
HOW YOU WILL BE MAKING A DIFFERENCE:
Mental Health Worker Support:
- Assess and build on clients’ strengths, needs, abilities, and preferences
- Assess social and environmental factors impacting the client
- Motivate and support participants to work towards achievement of their Individual Rehabilitation Plan (IRP) goals
- Completion of a Mental Health Status Exam within the first week of client’s admission, and subsequently once per month or as needed
- Assisting and supporting the emotional and social needs of a client
- Medication administration, medication education and monitoring; support clients with medication routines in coordination with the clinical team
- Support clients with physical and mental health concerns, and liaise with clinical staff
- Crisis prevention and intervention to ensure a safe environment for clients and staff
- Health teaching about mental illness and symptom management
- Assist and coach clients in the learning and management of activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, daily chores, budgeting, socialization, etc. (when appropriate)
- Provide advocacy and guidance when necessary for clients
- Facilitate and implement client meetings, small groups and activities as appropriate
- Provide recreational community outings and activities to enhance clients’ quality of life and provide further connection to the community
Personal Care/support:
- Assist clients to maintain good personal hygiene which may include but is not limited to bathing, dressing and continence care.
- Working with clients and providing one on one care such as assisting with personal care, meal preparation and service and housekeeping duties
- Assist clients with ambulation, positioning, and as necessary and with appropriate training, provide safe lifts and transfers
Role within the Team:
- Ongoing liaison with clinical team to ensure a firm understanding of the clinical aspects of the program
- Assisting or facilitating any follow-up with daily and weekly program needs and client appointments
- Provide input and feedback on decisions concerning operations of the program, policies of the organization and accreditation standards
- Attend one staff meeting per month, plus relevant seminars and training sessions when possible
- Ensure the health, safety, welfare and independence of clients
- Complete chores and Infection prevention activities as assigned
Administrative
- Minor maintenance of the facility such as repairs, common areas, grounds, client rooms etc.
WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO APPLY:
Police Vulnerable Sector Check Requirements
Successful candidates must have a Police Vulnerable Sector Check completed in the last six months. Interested applicants who reside in the City of London and are in need of a Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) are encouraged to apply for one as soon as possible as PVSCs in the City of London are currently taking approximately 5 weeks to be processed and offers of employment cannot be made without receipt of a PVSC.
We require the following qualifications:
- Minimum diploma or degree in a social service field of study is preferred, with strong preference for education as a Personal Support Worker, Developmental Services Worker, or Registered Practical Nurse (primary proof of credentials will be required during the hiring process i.e. original degree/diploma or official transcript)
- Current, satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC)
- Demonstrated ability to attend work regularly
We prefer the following qualifications:
- First Aid & CPR
- Applied Suicide Interventions Skills and Training
- Work experience in the mental health field or residential setting
- Personal Support work experience
- Knowledge of psychosocial rehabilitation
- Knowledge of psychiatric medications
- Knowledge of community resources
- Knowledge of computerized documentation methods
- Health and safety knowledge
