Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) is a federal program committed to help young people gain employment information, skills and experience. This program aims to support young people, particularly those from communities facing barriers to employment, as they transition into the labour market.

 WHAT WE'RE OFFERING:

• What you'll be making - $17.20 per hour
   
• When you'll work -  This position is 35 hours per week for approximately 8 weeks; Monday to Friday, 8:30am-4:30pm 
   
• Your pension plan - Immediately eligible for optional enrolment in the Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan (HOOPP)

HOW YOU WILL BE MAKING A DIFFERENCE:

• Advocate, refer and connect individuals with appropriate services, supports, and resources (formal and informal) based on their needs.
• Support clients when attending various appointments to feel heard, to build and access coping tools to engage in these settings, and to help clients process information being shared around wellness and how to integrate into daily living routines
• Provide health teaching to both staff and individuals accessing services
• Assist and coach individuals in the learning and achievement of activities of daily living such as personal hygiene, daily chores, cooking and nutrition, budgeting, interpersonal skills, etc.
• Plan and implement seasonal engagemnt projects across properties where clients reside within Supportive Independent Housing Programs (gardening, client BBQ’s etc)
• Champion each individual’s capacity for independent community living
• Computerized documentation maintaining client records
• Ensure effective communication with Manager, staff team, and external treatment teams concerning individual’s progress
• Crisis intervention and prevention; identify crisis/safety concerns, promote resolution alongside colleagues, and safety planning/management of all emergency situations concerning clients, staff, and property

WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO APPLY:

Police Vulnerable Sector Check Requirements

Successful candidates must have a Police Vulnerable Sector Check completed in the last six months. For candidates who require a request letter in order to apply for a police check, request letters will be provided for candidates that move forward from the interview stage of the recruitment process.

We require the following qualifications:

• Canada Summer Jobs requirements:
  • Will be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment
  • Are a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the  duration of the employment
  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and am legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
  • (Note: International students are not eligible. Recent immigrants are eligible if they are Canadian Citizens or permanent residents.)

• Valid Driver’s License and access to a vehicle
• Ability to attend work regularly

We prefer the following qualifications:

• First Aid / CPR
• Insurance adequate for transporting clients
• Knowledge of mental health and recovery
• Knowledge of community resources
• Knowledge of computerized documentation methods
• Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training
• Health and safety knowledge
• Ability to recognize and guide potential conflict situations
